L/Cpl William “Ginger” Draper, formerly of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, served with No.3 Troop of No.6 Commando from, at least, 5th June 1944.
L/Cpl. William Draper was reported as being Killed in Action (KIA) on 30th June 1944, aged 20 years. The exact circumstances of William’s death were that a the 30th June 1944 was a hot, sunny and quiet day in the Orchard at Le Plein and a small group of No.3 Troop had gotten out of their slit trenches to play a game of ‘Coits’. Whilst the game was being played a German mortar or 88mm shell landed amongst the men killing William instantly.
He was the son of Elizabeth Draper; husband of Doris Eileen Draper, of Plaistow, Essex, and was laid to rest in
